We couldn't not have wings for the tournament... I bought a jumbo pack a week or two earlier and froze them. They were still frozen two days after I moved them to the fridge. My plan had been to broil them as usual and then leave them in the oven for a bit, but it was way too hot in the oven. I moved them to the microwave instead. I love the microwave. All the chicken was completely cooked, and after two batches (a honey bbq I made up and the usual buffalo) we were completely stuffed.

Wings (It must be Sunday)
The supermarket we've been going to sells gigantic packs of wings from what must be gigantic chickens. We used to buy one pack and use all of it on one Sunday. This is the third serving from one of the gigantic packs.

Crispy Wings
Either we ate the veggies before the wings were done or... I don't know. Why are these wings all alone?
Maybe I'm just not done plating. (Anyone here notice that I've separated each food item into its own post? I'm beefing up my blog numbers to keep well ahead of LV's blog.

Wings
While it's fun to have the return of our football routine from 2007, I still can't get my drink on for Football Sunday like I used to. Those glasses are from my parents' visit last night. Cleaning... Not such a priority compared to feeding and changing the newborn.

Super Bowl Snacks
Avocados were on sale, so our Super Bowl Sunday started with guacamole. I think my avocados were too small. Or maybe I just added too much lime juice. Either way, I ate plenty of it.
Next up, figuring Scrappy wouldn't want to eat wings, I made bagel bites and pigs in a blanket (the last of the leftovers from her party).
Then I made potato skins. I think they were better than the last time I made them. That could be because there were so many fewer to deal with.
Last, but not least, I made wings. The bigger grocery store seems to have access to bigger chickens. You can't tell in this picture just how much bigger they were, but I only made half any many as I normally do because there was twice at much meat.

Wings & Rigatoni
Weeks ago I bought a package of wings and then stuck them in the freezer. All sorts of other goodies were also added to the freezer that haven't exactly been devoured. Thus, the wings for Football Sunday had some company--bagel bites and pigs in blankets. A plate like that will leave you not wanting to stay put the couch while you contemplate what you've done to yourself.
LV said he had seen a commercial for meatballs, and that sounded like a really good idea for dinner. I didn't want spaghetti. I made what was left of a box of rigatoni. Then I added all the frozen vegetable that would have been on the side to the pot of meatballs. That probably would have worked better with more delectable vegetables.

Buffalo Wings
Sundays with wings are so much better than Sundays with no wings. Mmm... Wings.

Buffalo Wings
Our grocery store had wings, so I made them for the 1 'o-clock game. They were good. Routines are good. :0)

Buffalo Wings
I really don't like the guys on Fox who announce the Bears games. I think they're really annoying because they seem to hate the Bears. My wings kind of helped ease the pain of having to listen to them. ("Having" because WGN can't broadcast over the internet and I don't have my stereo hooked up to be able to listen to Sirius while I watch the game. One day I will figure that out...)

Baked and Broiled
This week the grocery store had wings, so I made my fake teriyaki flavor. They were saucy.
For dinner, we had steak. You can't tell from the picture how much hemming and hawing went into this meal. I didn't feel like ordering out again, but I also didn't feel like making dinner. There were too many dishes already stacked up, but we couldn't eat just steak. We ended up just creating a lot of dirty dishes and having a nice dinner.

Monday Night Game
We bought two pounds of wings, so, for the Monday night game, we had more wings. I felt they should be part of a meal of junk food, hence nachos. (Note there is still portfolio work in the background...)

Wings
This is the grease left behind by the plate of wings that LV has deemed the greatest wings ever made. I'm noticing a pattern: When I don't take a picture, it's the greatest thing LV's ever eaten.

The Return of Wings
I missed last year's football season because I worked Sunday brunch. This year, our grocery store didn't have wings the first weekend. But this week--this week--we had wings. First we had teriyaki wings (because I discovered we had two full bottles of soy sauce) and then the usual buffalo wings.

Wings
After so many wings on Labor Day, I just don't look at them the same way anymore. I couldn't even take a decent picture of the first football batch...

Illinois Reception
This little guy was hanging out, waiting for the party.
And it looks like this little lady was also just hanging out, waiting for the party. But she came in and helped me slice up tons of things. (If only we hadn't doubled and tripled the recipes...)
Good Housekeeping had a really enticing article on picnic foods. The recipes were meant to serve 8. Doubling the recipe looks like it's meant to serve 8 families. There were two platters like this...
This is the tarragon vinaigrette. I think I tried it. It sounded good. And I had to look all over for fresh tarragon leaves. We had some traditional onion dip, too. Or maybe it was ranch.
I was definitely too busy arranging shrimp skewers and trying to finish the 216 wings to sit down and eat a giant bowl of carrots. I should have placed a dollar bill next to the bowl for scale...
This wasn't what my mom wanted. Trays of shrimp with cocktail sauce in the middle were on sale. I said they looked sketchy and bought a bag of frozen shrimp instead.
You'll notice the lack of pictures of wings. I made them in buffalo, plain, chipotle and extra spicy varieties. I think only three of the nine packages actually went into the broiler. I had a lot of sangria.
I had cake, too. Although the invitations my mom sent out misspelled LV's name, the cake was correct. And tasty.
